History of Chamunda Mata Temple

There is an interesting tale attached to the origin of the Chamunda Mata Temple. According to legends, Rao Jodha, who founded the city of Jodhpur, was looking for a place to build his new fort. While searching, he reached Mehrangarh Hill, and there, he observed a sage meditating on the hilltop locationTo start the construction there, Rao Jodha requested the sage to go to another place but to his surprise, the sage dismissed his request. However, Rao was also stubborn. He took the help of his people to forcefully make him leave the hill. The sage got so angry after all this that he cursed Rao and said that his kingdom will face the problem of water shortage foreverRao got scared. To protect his kingdom from this curse and to seek a solution to this problem, he went to royal priests who advised him to offer prayer to Chamunda Devi. Upon taking their advice, he set up the temple of Chamunda Mata at Mehrangarh Fort. This is how this temple came into the picture.
